Aleksandra Popova

Aleksandra Popova is based in Oslo, Norway. She explores protection as a primal human instinct that has shaped human experience, belief, and storytelling across time. Through varying scales and forms, she investigates how this instinct is symbolised, enacted through rite, and transformed.

Drawing on mythology as a conceptual framework, her practice examines how ancient cultures used myths to understand and navigate protection — transforming an instinctive response into symbols, objects, and gestures that continue to resonate today. Rooted in the mythological traditions of her origins, her practice moves between the personal and the ancestral, questioning what it means to seek protection in the contemporary world.
